The Triple T: Tim’s Top Three

For those unfamiliar with my article, I will be listing my three favorite players at each position – two of my favorite higher-priced guys and my favorite “value” play. The top three plays at each position can also be used for cash games. As it relates to that value play, I am using Fanduel players priced around $3000 on that site as a gauge, but the plays can be applied to both sites, unless otherwise noted. Please note that these are NOT the only plays I like, but I can’t list everyone and truly try to narrow down the field as much as possible. Use these plays along with your own research!

Top Three Pitchers

Pitcher (No order):

Boom-or-bust: Bumgarner, Gonzales, Megill

Notes: Ray has been a beast lately and comes in to tonight sporting a whopping 17% swinging strike rate over the last month, by far the highest on the slate. That has translated to a 40% strikeout rate which is just silly (and 10% above the next highest guy). I am sure now that I am praising him that he shits on my head but I just can’t deny the Cy Young caliber season this guy is having. Camden is not an ideal to pitch but this guy can pitch anywhere right now. Valdez could be popular against the Angels but he lacks the K upside that Ray has though he is considerably cheaper. He is probably “safe” if that is what you are going for so I don’t mind the play but I am also not tripping over myself to play him. Mahle is cheaper than Valdez on FD and that is where I would go between the two on that site if debating them. Mahle has been amazing away from Great American this season and Busch is one of the best pitcher’s parks in the league. He is allowing 2.38 HR/9 at home but just .42 per 9 on the road and his ERA is 5 runs lower away from Cinci! Megill is interesting to me as a SP2 on DK or a punt on FD. He has been simply amazing to righties and now gets a lineup full of them. The lefties in the lineup, Gallo and Rizzo, are dangerous but have been struggling. They could do some damage to Megill as he is dreadful to lefties but to righties, he has a nice 30% K rate and an impeccable 2.70 xfip (5.52 to lefties).

Top Three Positional Players

*These plays can be used, and are suitable for, cash games as well as tourneys*

*The original version of this article published with old players in the position spots below. I am making this update at 6:00pm with the correct players. Pitchers and stacks were unaffected.

Catcher (DK-centric position):
Value: Suzuki, Rivero, Kirk (FD)

1st Base:
Perez (FD)
Value: Santana, Walker, B Miller, Narvaez

2nd Base:
Value: Toro, France, Refsnyer

3rd Base:
Value: Dozier, Urias, Lamb

Value: Gregorius, Urias, Goodrum

Outfield (6 for good measure):

Value: Cain, Kepler, M Taylor, Dozier, Aquino, Gallo, Rooker, Heredia

Top Team Stacks (both sites, no order):

Blue Jays (Guerrero/Bichette/Hernandez/Semien/Kirk) – Ellis has held his own against some good teams (including this one) but he is an extreme flyball pitcher and his luck is bound to run out soon. He is allowing a BABIP of .190 with a LOB rate of 93% so regression is coming and coming fast.

Braves (Freeman/Riley/Soler/Duvall/Albies) –  I don’t think this stack is very high owned but Rogers really hasn’t been great lately.

KC (Perez/Merrifield/Mondesi/Santana) –   This stack could be popular against Jax who is one of the worst pitchers on the slate but just tread lightly as they are a pretty bad offense. Jax is allowing the highest exit velocity and barrel rate on the slate over the last month though so they’re in as good a position as any team.

Boom-or-Bust/Under The Radar Stack(s):

Brewers (Yelich/Narvaez/Wong/Garcia/Vogelbach)

Rockies (Story/Blackmon/McMahon/Cron/Rodgers)

Twins (Refsnyder/Buxton/Polanco/Donaldson/Sano)

As always, remember to make sure these players are indeed in the lineup and that weather is okay. Don’t forget that baseball is by far the highest variance sport but by truly digging in to the numbers and turning over every stone, we can mitigate that variance.  Please follow Top Flight Fantasy Sports on Twitter and Facebook if you haven’t already and good luck!
