Thursday Night Football – NFL DFS Advice: Giants @ Eagles

Showdown Thursday Night Football

Thursday Night Football: NFL DFS Advice:

Here we discuss the NFL single game DFS slates for Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, and Sunday Night Football, and the strategies on how to attack them.  These types of slates vary from game to game but the strategies tend to be pretty similar. Most people want to get their hands on both quarterbacks in NFL single game and showdown DFS lineups and if not then at least one. People rarely play both kickers or DST on single game NFL DFS slates. Vegas lines and player props play a huge part in building lineups as well. You’ll find updated Vegas odds here Vegas insider and player props DraftKings Player Props here. Last thing to think about is pairing a teammate with the captain/MVP spot and if playing both quarterbacks putting in a target for each. All of these strategies do make sense but finding ways to be different is how you will find your way on top of NFL single game DFS leaderboards.

Thursday Night Football:  NFL DFS Giants @ Eagles Overview

Thursday we have two teams near the top of their divisions looking to claw their way to the top. Unfortunately, these two teams are in the NFC East but I had to try and make it seem more exciting somehow. We are coming into the week hot with an implied total of just 44.5 and the Eagles being 4.5 point favorites. The Eagles have a litany of injuries here that seems to only be getting worse for them. As of right now, we know that Sanders, Ertz, Goedert, and Reagor will all be out. Desean Jackson is anticipated to play and Alshon Jeffery is most likely not going to play. As for the Giants Sterling Sheperd is up in the air to come back this week.

FanDuel Single Game MVP

1. Carson Wentz

While Wentz probably wouldn’t be on my radar in a regular slate or honestly even in a two-game slate he has way more upside than his counterpart. The Giants are middle of the road against quarterbacks allowing 233 yards a game and less than two touchdowns. Despite that and despite this being such an ugly game on paper I personally think this has a chance to be higher scoring than some think. In three of the last four games Wentz had 22+ Fanduel points and that should be enough here.

2. Boston Scott

It’s Boston Scott time again in Philly! Luckily Fanduel didn’t jump on this as quickly as DraftKings did with pricing. With Scott being super chalk here and only costing $6500 we may see him 90%+ and I won’t even be mad about it. The Giants are allowing 89.5 yards to running backs and 23 fantasy points a game, which may not be the best matchup ever but the price allows you to make any line you want.

3. Devonta Freeman

It is kind of strange thinking that a starting running back may be considered contrarian in the MVP spot. With Freeman’s production so far and a lot of attention going to the quarterbacks’ receivers and Boston Scott I think Freeman may get lost in the shuffle. He is finally starting to get the touches we need receiving 17+ carries a game over the last two weeks. This matchup may not be the best with the Eagles only allowing 76 yards a game and a touchdown. One thing I will leave here to think about is that the Giants are scoring on runs 50% of the time which is 4th in the league.

DraftKings Showdown Captain

1. Carson Wentz

2. Boston Scott – priced up but still a discount for a captain.

3. Travis Fulgham

Desean Jackson will be back for this Thursday Night Football game but Alshon Jeffery will not which makes me still love Fulgham. He draws a pretty decent matchup, after two bad ones, and as always I love pass catchers in the captain spot with the full PPR. Over the last two games, Fulgham has seen 23 targets and pulled in 16 of those. He has a deep threat ability so he can break the slate at any time.

2. Daniel Jones

To say Jones has been underperforming would be an understatement. He has only eclipsed 200 passing yards in 3 games this year so far and only has 3 touchdowns. So why play him? Well, he has rushed for 40+ yards in 3 games this year and as we know one touchdown can make all the difference in these slates. Jones has been put up against solid defenses every week outside of the Cowboys so I expect him to step up a little bit tonight on Thursday Night football.

3. Darius Slayton

There is some chatter that Sterling Shepard may return for this game so we may need to pay attention to that. I still like Slayton even with Shepard in because Slayton is always dangerous for a deep route and Jones has been loving him. Slayton has more snaps, routes, and targets compared to any other receiver on the team by a large margin. These numbers may change if Shepard comes back but I will still have my fair share of Slayton.

4. Evan Engram

Engram has an incredible matchup here whether he can make something of it or not we will have to see. While he hasn’t quite lived up to his expectations he still has a high amount of usage. The Eagles have allowed 6 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown a game to opposing Tight Ends. If Jones can figure something out Engram can be in for a big night.

Low Owned Single Game/Showdown Punt Plays

Kickers are always an option in single games and Showdowns as we don’t know what will happen with that and I usually like them in games that are expected to be high scoring.

1. Richard Rodgers

Ertz and Goedert are both out for this game which means Rodgers will be TE1 on a team that loves the position. The Eagles throw to the Tight End 32% of the time which is the 3rd highest in the league. While they may not get a great matchup for this I think the volume will be there for such a cheap play on both sites.

2. Greg Ward

Crazy to think at the beginning of the year Ward was on a lot of people’s radar and now he’s a back up to backups. He will still see playing time with Jackson back but will see a lot less ownership and I think he makes for a solid punt play. While he doesn’t get many targets compared to the other receivers I believe both Tight Ends being out will open up some opportunity for him.

3. Sterling Shepard

I’m using my third pick as kind of a throwaway. IF Shepard plays I don’t think people are going to be quick to click on his name. He is $6500 on FD and $7000 on DK it is worth the risk in my opinion if you are playing multiple lines. I personally wouldn’t go this route doing just a couple of variations but it could pay off. There is always a possibility of him getting re-injured or being limited to just a couple of plays so pay attention to injury news and know this play could get you a 0. If Sheperd is out give Austin Mack a look as he has been seeing some playing time in Shepard’s absence.

Thank you all for reading! Remember to not pay too much attention to left over salary in single game NFL DFS. Don’t be afraid to have 4 from one team and only 1 from another. It is scary sometimes seeing that you don’t have balance between the two teams but these single games are basically like the lottery and having something like that can be the winning ticket.
