Basic Facts:

Essential Stat Categories: SG: Approach, Scrambling, SG: Off the Tee

Mile High Overview

We’re down to the final 70, and a no cut environment for the last 2 events of the PGA Tour season.  We’re closing in on the “pot luck” period, where there are less players now, so the limitations to the combinations are there as well.  Only 30 players make it past this week.  For a complete list of the current FedEx Cup Standings, check PGA FEDEX CUP STANDINGS

Roster Construction Thoughts

Quite simply, stars and scrubs is a very viable option this week.  Also leaving a ton of salary on the table is too.  You’ll need to be different to take down a GPP, and that’ll be hard. Leaving salary on the table is the easiest way to ensure that.  This article will be short and sweet, because there’s so much talent in this tourney, you absolutely have to vary your lines.

Top Flight Picks

NOTE:  I’ve removed the Stat Rankings from this page, all stats you need can be found on the PGA Rankings page now.

Hole in One:

My pick to win

Justin Rose

Rose played some of the best golf of his season early on last week before a weekend meltdown.  He’s not really in fear of losing his Top 30 spot, but he’s going to earn it believe me.  He fits the course wonderfully, and is in good form coming off a 2nd place finish.  It’s time for a playoff win.

Albatross:

Excellent Picks, high exposure, hopeful top 5’s

Bryson DeChambeau

Momentum is everything in the playoffs of any sport, so why would golf be any different?  DeChambeau is actually locked as the #1 seed in the Tour Championship, but he’s still gonna go after this one, because it all but guarantees him the FedEx Cup crown.  It’s another course that fits him, and we could be watching the tour’s next super star come into form.

Tony Finau

He hasn’t made the Ryder Cup team yet, but there is one more captain’s pick to be made.  Finau has a chance to make a grand impression and get the final invite(he really wants it).  I like his game for this course this week.

Eagles:

Solid picks, hopeful top 10 finishes, outside chance of winning.

Brooks Koepka

Another week where Koepka can play well.  On the surface he’s seemed quiet recently, but he finished 8th and 12th so far in the previous 2 playoff tournaments.  He’s right there, just need to close out a win again.

Jordan Spieth

I haven’t given up on Spieth, who is still one of the best golfers on the planet.  It’s been two top 25 finishes, including 12th at the Dell Tech, and then there’s the matter of his tournament history, 10.6 average over the past 5 years.  Worst finish was 16th.  He’s 27th right now in the FedEx Cup standings, which means he needs a good week to move on.  I doubt he misses that chance.

Birdies:

Aiming to hit the Top 25. Goal here isn’t to give you more expensive guys who are obvious, we want affordable guys who can hit top 25’s.

Adam Scott

Scott struggled a bit at the Dell Tech last week, but I expect a major bounce back performance this week.  He wants in that top 30, and now the time to earn it.  He’s currently 48th, so he’s going to need a very high finish to qualify top 30.

Bubba Watson

Watson is overall fairly safe in the top 30, but he can’t just meltdown either.  He’s a competitor and going top 30 will definitely be high on his priority list.

Pars:

Roster filling mid tier guys who probably won’t finish top 10 or maybe even top 25 but can help you win.

Patrick Cantlay

Hideki Matsuyama

Bogeys:

Guys I’d only take a small GPP Flyer on, have a good possibility of busting and missing the cut.  Consider this your “punts” section, if you’re trying to jam in high dollar guys, these are some cheapies who could save your day.

Chesson Hadley

Keegan Bradley

Byeong Hun An
