NFL Season Preview – Indianapolis Colts

Key Fantasy Additions

  1. Andrew Luck – Questionable to call him an “addition” but let’s make no mistake, this is a top 10 QB in the league when healthy. Sadly for him this team continues goof around with its running back position and he’s likely to have to do it all for this offense again. The offensive line is just okay, some good names and some weak spots, so he could get hit quite a bit. T.Y. Hilton remains his best option. Oh and….
  2. Eric Ebron– alright so this guy has a ton of talent but faced questions about work ethic in Detroit. If, and it’s a big if, he fits well and works hard, he could be a stud with a QB like Luck. It’s a huge if because Matt Stafford is a really decent QB and Ebron couldn’t play well with him.

Key Fantasy Loses

Donte Moncrief – He was on his way to becoming a really solid receiver, and big time fantasy threat. He went out the door, and got replaced by Ryan Grant, just an FYI, that wasn’t an upgrade.

Fantasy Top 3

  1. Andrew Luck
  2. T.Y. Hilton
  3. Jack Doyle / Eric Ebron – I cheated a little here but we don’t know which TE will see the bulk of the action yet. Whichever one does is the one I’d favor here.

Possible Fantasy Sleeper

Ryan Grant – I’m not a giant fan of his, but in a limited role in Washington he was fairly productive. I don’t foresee him having an amazing breakout season but he will be someone to keep an eye on for week 2 or 3 waiver wire if he starts well.

Season Outlook

The Colts finally seemed to take protecting Andrew Luck seriously by drafting the first offensive lineman of the draft, Guard Quenton Nelson. Early reports are that the kid is pushing defenders around like blocking dummies early on in camp. If he comes our dominant and the line holds up and gives Luck time, they can have a decent offense. Frank Reich is an interesting coach, he’s a really good offensive mind, but I’m not convinced he was ready for this promotion. He also wasn’t the Colts first choice for the job. This team has some major problems still on the defensive side of the ball, a no name defensive coordinator and literally no names worth mentioning, they could be the worst defense in the league.

Best Case Scenario

Luck is a special QB, so if he goes complete Superman, this team could see an 8-8 season.

Worst Case Scenario

The defense on this team is pretty atrocious and barring a miracle, this is a 5-11 team if I’ve ever seen one.
